Walk All Over Waterloo

When: Fri., June 2 2017
With the highly-anticipated return of the 15th Annual Waterloo Arts Fest coming later this month, the Waterloo Arts District hosts a preview of sorts during June’s Walk All Over Waterloo from 5 to 10 p.m. today. While some of the district’s galleries debut the exhibitions that will be on display throughout the month, others host closing receptions for exhibitions ending before the annual fest. Waterloo Arts hosts an opening reception for its annual Waterloo Arts Fest Juried Exhibition. Open to anyone over the age of 18 residing in the U.S. or Canada, this year’s competitive show is selected by Anderson Turner, director of the School of Art Collection and Galleries at Kent State University and art critic for the Akron Beacon Journal. Located just south of Waterloo Arts on East 156th Street, Satellite Gallery debuts its latest series of installations, Pillars of Creation. A converted family home, Satellite’s current show features work by Stephanie Colonna, Mary Jean Ferretti, Joseph Fiore, Jonah Jacobs, Steve Simmons and Cindy Smith. Just steps east on Waterloo Road, the Maria Neil Art Project hosts a closing reception for Natural Selections: A Dresden Creation, an exhibition of new work by Deborah Pinter. Natural Selections includes work creating in the time periods leading up to, during and following Pinter’s five-week printmaking residency at the Grafikwerkstatt Dresden Studios in Dresden, Germany. A collaboration between Grafikwerkstatt Dresden Studios and Zygote Press since 1998, the Dresden Exchange Residency is the longest running artist exchange program in the state of Ohio. The exhibition remains on view through June 18. There’s plenty more to see and do throughout the neighborhood. Stay tuned for more info on the Waterloo Arts Fest, held annually on the last Saturday in June. Free. (Usmani)
