We the Kings/Breathe Carolina/T. Mills/The Ready Set/Like the Movies
When: Wed., Aug. 21, 6:30 p.m. 2013
Video may have killed the radio star, but We The King’s Charles Trippy is betting Internet will kill the television star. The band’s bassist runs a reality video blog on YouTube in which he documents the bands tour as well as his relationship with his wife and dogs. They have been filming every day of their life for five years (not missing one day) and show no plans of stopping unlike the band which has slowed its momentum significantly since their hit song “Check Yes Juliet.” The song is a typical Blink 182 style alternative punk song about chasing a girl and the sound does little to distinguish itself from the mound full of similar songs we’ve all heard for over a decade now. Two albums later and the band has been able to maintain a small but dedicated following especially due to the popular web series. Breathe Carolina will open the show with a very unique blend of synth and dub step based beats combined with traditional pop elements and screaming. This Colorado group, despite their misleading name, is worth checking out as well. (Hoffman)
