Nobody’s life dream is to make birthday cards featuring fedora-sporting monkeys. Most American Greetings artists grew up with loftier and less lucrative aspirations. Fine Lines, now on view at Spaces, lets more than two dozen painters, sculptors, and writers roam free. The juried show includes everything from mixed-media pieces and digital drawings to poems and art made out of old bottle caps. American Greetings employees like Dan Chrzanowski, Bill Shearer, and Andrzej Siwkiewicz contribute pieces consisting of colored blobs, chaotic scribbles, and artsy portraits -- which would probably confuse the hell out of those picking up thinking-of-you cards for their elderly neighbors. Cool stuff.
