Wong's World

When: Thu., Sept. 19, 6:45 p.m. 2013
Price: $9
Chinese director Wong Kar Wai is something of a household name in the Eastern hemisphere. He’s the dude behind the martial-arts epic The Grandmaster, out now in theaters. Tonight at 6:45 at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque, you can see one of his earlier works, Ashes of Time Redux, originally made in 1994 but re-edited and released in America in 2008. The film tells the stories of embittered lovers and heartsick warriors seeking vengeance via the services of swordsmen for hire. By all accounts, it’s something of a mindfuck. Virtually every critic who reviewed the film used the word “delirious” at least once. Gorgeous landscapes and raw Asian emotion and all that jazz. If you miss it tonight, you’ll have one more chance Saturday at 9:45 p.m. Tickets are $9. (Allard)
