Wooden Indian Burial Ground/The Houses/Time Cat

When: Fri., Nov. 8, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $5
Lo-fi, borderline surfer rock from Portland, Ore: That’s a simple way of summing up what Wooden Indian Burial Ground does best. (Great name, by the way.) “Helicopter,” a nice example of the band’s sound, is at times a droning bastard of a jam. At other points, the quartet of musicians exhibits horror-flick tendencies, tossing in keys and effects that jangle the main melody of the song. One Portland writer tossed the phrase “psychedelic garage rock” their way. And while that might be an oversimplified gloss, it’s goddamned accurate. Really, by the time “Helicopter” wraps up, it’s an alien version of itself. Things get weird quite fast with this band, which portends well for tonight’s gig at Happy Dog. (Sandy)
