Young and the Restless

Comedian hits the road with some funny friends.

When stand-up comedian Mike Young put together the Young American Comedy Tour to showcase up-and-coming funny people, he had no idea how clever he was. "I came up with the [title], but I didn't even know that my name was in there," he laughs. "Other people pointed it out to me. They were like, 'You're a genius!'"The showcase features the Detroit-based Young and a rotating group of comics. Ian Edwards and Bret Ernst are on the bill that comes to the Improv this weekend. Young handpicked the comedians based on their distinct styles. The headliner himself riffs on friendships: "I look around at my delinquent friends, and I'm like, 'Why are we still hanging out?'" Young also has plenty to say about women — whom he refers to as "the new men." "They're running for office, they're the Speaker of the House, they're cheating," he says. "They're doing everything we used to do. I met this one girl, and she says, 'I'm married, but I'm kind of dating someone.' I'm like, 'Wow, you're Charlie Sheen!'" The Young American Comedy Tour comes to the Improv (5000 Sycamore Street) through Sunday. Showtimes are 8 tonight, 8 and 10:15 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday, and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $17.
