Formed only four years ago, Buke and Gase, an experimental indie rock act out of NYC, takes a unique approach to making music -- its members invented their own instruments. Specifically, they created a six-string baritone ukulele that they’ve dubbed the “Buke” and a guitar-base hybrid they call the “Gase,” hence the band’s moniker. While that might make it sound like they’re apt to indulge in making an unlistenable racket, their latest album, General Dome, is surprisingly accessible. The album’s first single, “Hiccup,” features vocals that sound like a cross between Sinead O’Connor and Kate Bush, and the title track starts slow before escalating into a post-punk anthem that recalls mid-’90s PJ Harvey.
