Six years ago, Danny Brown dropped a supremely warped track called “Greatest Rapper Ever,” and, well, okay. It’s a fine tune, and, at the very least, put Brown on the map as a rapper to be reckoned with. Greatest ever, though? Whatever he’s doing these days, it’s a far cry from his 2010 mixtape days. Atrocity Exhibition, released this fall to much acclaim, traverses bizarre soundscapes while pushing Brown’s penchant for experimentation to the borders of enjoyment. It’s a difficult trip, which isn’t inherently a bad thing, but the album certainly sees Brown indulging his whims more than angling toward the solid hip-hop foundation he’s already built. (Sandy)
