Known for low-key, deep folk rock -- “transcendental folk,” they’ve been called -- Elephant Revival incorporates a number of older music traditions (like Celtic strains) into their music. It’s a calming sort of songwriting, and their albums make for pleasant country drives through forests of strings: guitar, pedal steel, banjo, fiddle, bass. They’ve brought the Beachland to an utter silence in past visits, and we expect them to craft a similar reverie tonight with the goods from their most recent album, Petals. Tunes like “Peace Tonight” offer a head-swaying rhythm and the cooling vocals of Bonnie Paine and Charlie Rose. You can take this stuff as deep as you like; it’s introspective and contemplative music while at the same time being enjoyable simply for the pleasantness of the music itself. (Eric Sandy)
