Ain’t no party like an Elvis Birthday party. If you’ve been to one of the annual shindigs held at PlayhouseSquare, you know just how much fun these shows are. Some of the world’s best Elvis impersonators convene to pay tribute to the King, who would’ve turned 78 this year. “He redefined what an entertainer was in every way, from his style of singing to his style of performing, as well as his off stage persona,” says impersonator Donny Edwards (pictured), who joins Shawn Klush, Cody Slaughter, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee DJ Fontana, and the Sweet Inspirations for this concert, which will touch on four different Elvis eras. “In Elvis' career he left no stone unturned when it came to style. He is simply Americana in its highest form, the original superstar that changed the world with his music. Elvis had ‘it,’ that something you couldn't put your finger on it, but it was amazing, pure magic. His voice had a soul to it unlike anybody before him nor since, for every word he sang you felt it, if he sang about feeling ‘lonely’ you felt heartbreak, if ‘love,’ you felt it tenderly, ‘God’ and you believed.” Edwards who started imitating the King when he was only 5, has won numerous Elvis impersonator competitions and puts on a hell of a show.
