Envoi/The Orphan, the Poet/Captain Kidd/Newshoes/Avenue

“Parma State of Mind,” a tune you know if you listen to the Alan Cox Show or spend any time on the internet, paints a fairly accurate picture of the suburb. There’s really nothing to see there and nothing to do. So for a pop rock band like Envoi to call it home is a feat for the city alone. The female-fronted fivesome is like a homegrown version of the Aussie pop band Tonight Alive but with hard guitars, head-bobbing beats, and vocals steadily balanced between soul and screamo. Though the band has only issued a two-song online download so far, it has tentative plans for a February EP release. (Nikki Hunt)
