Originally from Israel, Gadi Zamir, a Cleveland-based artist and founder of Asian Town Center’s Negative Space Gallery, works exclusively with wood. Zamir’s compositions are influenced by each piece of wood’s unique characteristics: grains, knots and imperfections. With these characteristics inspiring his composition and theme, Zamir uses woodburning techniques, dyes, oils and more to manipulate the surface into complex, symbolic and narrative imagery. Closing with a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. today, Gadi Zamir’s Benchmarks at the Beachwood Community Center showcases the artist’s new series of functional, three-dimensional works on reclaimed vintage sanctuary pews. Admission is free. (Usmani)
