The day this issue of Scene hits the streets of Cleveland, it’ll be one year precisely since the release of Marco Benevento’s TigerFace. A lot has certainly transpired in this world of ours in the past year, but one thing remains true: “Limbs of a Pine” is still stuck in our heads. The catchiest hooks Benevento has ever written dance along a percussive rhythm (with brass melodies galore) as Rubblebucket’s own Kalmia Traver guests on vocals. The rest of the album is supreme, as well, mind you. And Benevento’s most recent show in Cleveland - back in March - was a dazzling kaleidoscope of sound and movement. His set memorably ended with band members taking turns donning a massive tiger mask and just absolutely throwing down on their respective instruments. Cue up “Eagle Rock” for a glimpse into one of Benevento’s more signature songs of late. Note: This guy is a master of his craft. (Eric Sandy)
