Chef Sawyer Will be Both Tenant and ‘Curator of Food Experiences’ at Van Aken

[image-1]First a big "Chopped" win and now this.

Chef Jonathon Sawyer of Greenhouse Tavern, Noodlecat and Trentina restaurants will partner with RMS Investment Corp., the group behind the ambitious Van Aken District project, as both a tenant and “curator of food experiences.” In addition to opening his fourth Cleveland-area restaurant – an as yet unannounced concept – Sawyer will help steer and plan the overall food and beverage strategy of the development.

In addition to his new spot, Sawyer will oversee the acquisition of local, regional and national tenants for the much-touted food hall, The Orman Building, Van Aken’s new 22,000-square-foot food and retail marketplace. Sawyer and RMS are finalizing negotiations with well known chefs and familiar local companies like Mitchell’s Ice Cream, Rising Star Coffee Roasters, Restore Cold Pressed and Luna Crepes.

“As a proud Clevelander deeply invested in the growth of our city, being a part of Van Aken and its vision for the community is a thrilling prospect,” Sawyer explained. “We’ll soon be announcing a host of award-winning local and national chefs coming to Van Aken. We’re building something really special that will continue to establish Cleveland as one of the up and coming food cities in the country.”

Sawyer is the winner of the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Great Lakes and a Food & Wine Best New Chef.

We’ll keep you updated on the project, which is still more than a year out.
