Prevailing as the best beer city in the country, Cleveland knows how to party. And what better way is there to celebrate a 10th anniversary than with an open-invite birthday bash?

Tremont's Prosperity Social Club is fast approaching its 10th year in business, a rare feat in a bar scene that's ever-evolving. To mark the occasion, the club is opening its doors from 1 - 4 p.m. Oct. 17 and asking the entire city to join in to reminisce on its infancy.

Bringing in previous owners and Cleveland State University's Center for Public History + Digital Humanities, the Cleveland institution hopes to turn the party into a history lesson.

Before Prosperity Social Club, there was Polish bar Dempsey's Oasis in its place. Owner Stan Dembowski opened the doors to the Oasis in 1938. In honor of the Depression-era club, Prosperity will also host Dembowski's kin Richard and Theresa Dembowki who operated Dempsey's Oasis for 33 years. As guests of honor, the Dembowkis will be around to share stories and join in the celebration.

CSU will also be on site to record oral histories of the neighborhood and asks Clevelanders to bring down photo albums and cocktail stories about the town.

The birthday gathering will be less booze-fueled than the Prosperity Social Club's typical events, however the bar will be open and there will be food for all, as well as coffee, soft drinks and a big ol' cake.
