Cold-Pressed Juice Café Coming to Gordon Square


By mid-June, the Gordon Square neighborhood will have its very own juice café, courtesy of Jodi Rae Santosuosso. Daily Press (6604 Detroit Ave.), located across the street from Luxe, will specialize in nutrition-focused cold-pressed juices and blended smoothies that utilize local and organic ingredients.

For the past 10 years, Santosuosso lived in California, where she taught yoga and studied health and nutrition. She returned home to Cleveland to open the business. Up to now, she's been making the juices for family and friends, and selling them to the Black Pig, which uses them in cocktails.

"I think we could really use some more healthy options in Cleveland," she says. "I'm excited about it and I'm excited that people in the neighborhood are excited about it too."

Juices range from Just Watermelon (just watermelon) and Spiked Apple (apple, ginger, turmeric, cayenne) to the Greenest Cleanse (kale, spinach, chard, parsley, cucumber, ginger, turmeric). Juices are sold in 16-ounce portions. Reusable glass jars will be available for repeat customers.

In addition to the cold-pressed juices and blended smoothies, Daily Press will offer vegan and vegetarian soups, salads and sandwiches. "Like a true café," she notes.

The 800-square-foot space will offer seating at bars, counters and a communal table. "I want to create a cozy, natural atmosphere where you can hang out all day and have your juice or smoothies and work on the Wi-Fi."

Santosuosso literally grew up in the restaurant business, holding down almost every job at her family's Italian restaurant, Santo's. "I washed dishes before it was legal to do so, I bussed tables, rolled meatballs and cavatelli."

"I'm grateful to be back in Cleveland and I'm excited about all the things that are happening here and I'm excited to be a part of it," she says.
