On February 22, the sixth annual Downtown Restaurant Week goes live, with more than 40 downtown restaurants getting in on the prix fixe fun. The event runs through March 3, giving diners two weekends to enjoy the great deals. "Restaurant Week gives residents and visitors alike a chance to re-experience well-known favorites and try restaurants new to downtown," says Joe Marinucci of Downtown Cleveland Alliance, the event's sponsor. "Whatever your appetite and whatever the occasion, you'll find something delicious during Downtown Cleveland Restaurant Week."

More than 40 participating restaurants will be offering $30, three-course meals and/or $15 lunch options. New this year is an overarching theme: pierogies. Many restaurants will be serving creative pierogi recipes. Also, on Friday, February 22, there will be a kick-off bash at 4 p.m. on East 4th Street featuring starting DJ Kishka.

During Restaurant Week, several downtown parking facilities will offer $2 parking to diners who show their special parking voucher. For a list of participating restaurants, menus, and special events for Restaurant Week, visit

On March 1, the Callaloo Café (15601 Waterloo Rd., ) will celebrate its official grand opening with authentic Caribbean cuisine, tropical fruit drinks and live music from Panic Steel Ensemble. The event runs 7 to 9 p.m. The casual eatery opened back in December. The Callaloo Café, which is attached to Arts Collinwood in the Waterloo Arts District, is operated by Kelvin Cadiz. Callaloo offers a taste of Trinidad and Tobago, serving curry-filled rotis, crispy burritos, soft seafood tacos and Buss-Up-Shut.

"The restaurant opening is great for us," says Amy Callahan of Arts Collinwood. "Not only does it bring this fresh new food and reopens the doors of the café. It's a great arts partnership." Cadiz is the son-in-law of Robin VanLear, artistic director of the community arts department at Cleveland Museum of Art.

Despite a robust reopening day on Monday, February 18, the West Side Market still needs our continued support. That's why Cleveland Cash Mob founder Andrew Samtoy organized an event for Saturday, February 23 to help the vendors earn back some of the revenue lost by the extended closure.

To participate in this Cash Mob, simply show up with $20 in cash (preferably with a few friends in tow) and spend it just as you normally would. If you feel like bringing and spending more, I'm sure nobody would mind one bit.

Starting March 2, Cleveland will get a sip of its first self-serve Champagne and Mimosa cart. That's when Tremont's Press Wine Bar launches its Saturday and Sunday brunch service. "I don't know of any other Champagne and Mimosa cart that's out there," says owner John Owen. Similar to a Bloody Mary bar, the set up will feature an assortment of sparkling wines, at least 12 fresh juices, and fresh fruits for customers to craft their own bubbly concoctions. Higher-end Champagnes like Dom Perignon, Veuve Clicquot and Pierre Jouet will be served by the glass. The service runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
