Need another reason to eat local? How about the recent E.coli outbreak at three — count 'em, three — northeast Ohio Chipotle restaurants over the last two months.
That's right, cases of E.coli have been confirmed at Chipotle establishments at Legacy Village, in Parma on West Ridgewood Drive, and at the University of Akron on East Exchange Street,
Cleveland19 reports today.
The three infected restaurants do not have plans to close down, a Chipotle spokeswoman told Cleveland 19, but that they are undergoing a "deep cleaning," which includes replacing ingredients and observing employees for any signs of symptoms (none have been reported so far).
"We take this incident very seriously because the safety of our food and well being of our customers is always our highest priority," Steve Ells, chairman and co-CEO of Chipotle said. "We are committed to taking any and all necessary actions to make sure our food is as safe as possible, and we are working diligently with the health agencies."
The northeast Ohio incidents took place between mid-to-late October and Nov. 6. Outbreaks have also been reported in Washington and Oregon.
