In the two and a half years since it launched in Lakewood (15613 Detroit Ave., 216-505-5333), Nature’s Oasis has made a name for itself in the natural foods community. The neighborhood grocery, founded by Elliott Endsley, dedicates its limited shelf space to local products that follow the store’s ethos.

“When I started Nature’s Oasis, I wanted to create something that would help people find natural products while supporting other local entrepreneurs,” explains Endsley. “I really love helping fellow business owners to start and grow their businesses. We are up to a couple of hundred Ohio products on the shelves now, and the list keeps growing. That supports families and businesses right here in the state.”

At 5,700-square-feet, the shiny-new Van Aken District location (3385 Tuttle Rd., 216-469-1579) is nearly double the size of the original, which means even more room for local and regional food items with no artificial ingredients or preservatives. On the shelves and in the coolers are many brands that have become household names in the past handful of years. There’s Pope’s Kitchen, Saucisson, Cleveland Kraut, Nosh Butters, Root 23, Wild Ohio Brewing, Solstice Roasters and many, many others.

“We think that real food tastes best,” adds Endsley. “It doesn’t need to be enhanced with fake flavors or colors. And food should be fresh. It doesn’t need a whole list of chemicals that you can’t pronounce.”

As is the case at the Lakewood shop, the store will follow a dual approach that combines the grocery with a health-focused café. The café menu features breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner items like bagel breakfast sandwiches, salads, wraps and panini, and coffee, tea, smoothies and juices. There is an emphasis on vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes.

Nature’s Oasis is opening its doors on Friday, June 28. Hours of operation will be Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
