Banh Mi and Noodles (3820 Superior Ave., 216-266-0506) has opened in the Asiatown neighborhood, giving Asian food fans a new reason to visit. The restaurant is attached to the Asian Town Center in a separate building located at the corner of Superior and 38th Street.
Regular shoppers of Asia Foods, the wonderful grocery store inside the mall, might be familiar with Asia Tea House, a sort of makeshift café that operated in the rear of the market. This “hidden treasure” of a restaurant served summer rolls, noodles soups and white rice dishes topped with glorious roast duck. That restaurant, in fact, was a carryover from the original Asia Foods store on St. Clair.
Banh Mi and Noodles has replaced Asia Tea House, says owner Eric Duong, adding that the goal was to make a destination that was larger and more comfortable for diners. The menu is very similar, focusing on fresh summer rolls, noodle soups like shrimp wonton, pho and bun bo hue, banh mi sandwiches and white rice dishes topped with roast pork, roast duck and grilled chicken.
“This is a Vietnamese restaurant because I’m Vietnamese,” Duong says. “We’ve been doing this a long time since we are Asia Foods.”
Banh Mi and Noodles is open Tuesday to Sunday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
