Ohio Pie Co. has opened its second location in Rocky River.

Back in March, Ohio Pie Co. (1315 1/2 Pearl Rd., 330-741-4117) teased out a social media post hinting of a second location. Keen observers quickly deduced that the setting was the former Pizza Hut in Rocky River, located in the plaza with Whole Foods Market. Now, finally, the shop (19565 Detroit Rd., 216-353-7777) is open.

When he opened the original shop two and a half years ago, owner Nick Robson described the pizza to Scene as being, “a little bit buttery, mid-thickness crust that can hold up to a good amount of sauce, a good amount of cheese, and a good amount of toppings. From there I sort of borrowed elements from shops around the country that I really loved to come up with my own dream Frankenstein pizza.”

Qualities like a thin-but-not-too-thin crust, subtly sweet sauce, edge-to-edge cheese, and square-cut round pie combine to form Robson's ideal adaptation. Guests can design their own pizza from a list of toppings or go with a specialty pie like the double-pepperoni Heartburner, the Firebird starring Buffalo chicken and blue cheese, and the Nick’s Pick, where “You get what you get.”

Equally in demand are the brunch pies, which are served on weekend mornings and star breakfast-appropriate toppings like scrambled eggs, bacon and potatoes atop an “everything [bagel]” crust with a cream cheese white sauce.

Pizza lovers routinely make pilgrimages to the colorful storefront in Brunswick, where it is not uncommon for the store to run out of dough. Now those living closer to Cleveland will have an easier time snagging one or two pies.

Ohio Pie in Rocky River is open 4 to 10 p.m Tuesday through Sunday.

Robson’s partner in the business is Cleveland designer and longtime friend Aaron “Pants” Sechrist.
