Here are some spots to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, where the food does more than just sop up the beer:

Great Lakes Brewing Company (2516 Market Avenue, 216-771-4404). Hours: 10:30 a.m.-1 a.m. Eat: Special menu, featuring Stilton cheese soup, Brewmaster's Pie, and vegetarian Green Pub Pizza. Drink: 10 craft-brewed beers on tap, including Conway's Irish Ale; or Leprechaun Espressos, made with Bushmills and coffee. Make merry: Francis Quinn & Friends (10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.), the Mickeys (2 to 6 p.m.), and JP & the Chatfield Boys (7 to 11 p.m.). Tip: The bread pudding is grand!

The Harp (4408 Detroit Avenue, 216-939-0200). Hours: 8 a.m.-2:30 a.m. Eat: Limited menu featuring shepherd's pie, fish 'n' chips, corned beef and cabbage. Drink: 11 beers on draft; 10 Irish whiskeys. Make merry: The Boys From County Hell (9 p.m., $5 cover). Tip: Don't leave without a loaf of soda bread.

Claddagh Irish Pub (25389 Cedar Road, Lyndhurst, 216-691-0534). Hours: 9 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Eat: Full menu. Drink: Try a well-poured Guinness or the Gaelic Storm (with Stoli and Malibu Rum). Make merry: Porter & Stout (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), Forsythe Special (2 to 5 p.m.), Short Fuze (6 to 9 p.m.), Armstrong Bearcat Band (10 p.m. to 1 a.m.). Tip: Love the fish 'n' chips!

Sullivan's Irish Pub (13368 Madison Avenue, Lakewood, 216-529-8969). Hours: 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Eat: Limited menu featuring corned beef and cabbage, soups, salads, and Irish cheddar dip. Drink: 18 beers on draft; more than 20 Irish whiskeys. Make merry: The Whole Shabang (3 to 5 p.m.), Whiskey Island Ramblers (9:30 to 11 p.m.). Tip: Come before 11 a.m. for the traditional Irish breakfast -- fried eggs, imported sausage, black and white puddings, rashers, and fried tomatoes.

The Old Angle Tavern (1848 West 25th Street, 216-861-5643). Hours: 9 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Eat: Limited menu featuring corned beef and cabbage, and lamb stew. Drink: Six beers on draft; nine Irish whiskeys. Make merry: Whiskey Island Ramblers (2:30 p.m.). Tip: Warm up by the fireplace after the parade.

Flannery's Pub (see review). Hours: 5:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Eat: Limited menu featuring corned beef and lamb stew. Drink: 24 beers on draft; 13 Irish whiskeys. Make merry: The Boys From County Hell (noon to 8 p.m.) Tip: The covered outdoor patio could be just the spot for smokers.
