About a year ago, a group of Cleveland Heights residents, business owners and passionate individuals got together to begin brainstorming ideas on how to better promote the neighborhood they love. Organized by chef Douglas Katz, who lives and works in the Heights, the group quickly grew in size. The members met regularly to plan events, share news and help spread the word about their community.
Member Kari Moore explains the origins and purpose of the group.
“About a year ago, my friend Douglas Katz brought together a group of like-minded Heights folks – business owners, residents, and friends who share this commitment to community. Our group is collectively now known as
We Are Cleveland Heights. We are a loosely organized and evolving group that is bursting at the seams with love for where we live, work and play. And we've decided to get creative in how we tell our stories and promote this wonderful place.”
While people living in the community know all too well why they chose to live there (beautiful homes, access to University Circle, diversity, multiple Main Streets where one can walk to for beer, bread, books and fun), that isn’t always evident to outsiders.
So the group began organizing events. Up next is a pop-up dinner that will take place on Thursday March 12 in the lobby of the historic Alcazar Hotel, a Spanish-style gem built in the 1920s. This being Cleveland Heights, everybody jumped to volunteer and participate.
Called Planting the Seed, the dinner will feature a five-course meal prepared by Fire Food & Drink, SoHo Kitchen & Bar, Marotta's, FarmShare, Luna Bakery, and On The Rise. Drinks will be provided by The Wine Spot, La Cave du Vin, Parnell's Pub, and Phoenix Coffee.
Entertainment will be provided by The Grog Shop, and table decorations by Four And Twenty Mercantile.
