Rocky River Next Up for Shawn Monday and Flip Side

Before the end of 2014, the west side will welcome its first Flip Side, the expanding burger bar concept from Shawn and Tiffany Monday and Michael Schwartz. Originally launched in Hudson, the growing chain has added Chagrin Falls and Columbus to its roster of shops.

This location will be in Rocky River, in the Old River collection of shops and restaurants. Formerly a clothing store, the 4,000-square-foot space will need to be converted into a restaurant from scratch. The building’s façade will be recessed to allow for an expanded indoor/outdoor seating area.

“We consider Hudson and Chagrin Falls as kind of our home, and we think that Rocky River has that same kind of feel,” explains Monday. “We are super-excited to be a part of such an awesome neighborhood.”

Monday says that fans of the grass-fed burger concept can expect a similar look and feel, but one modernized by industrial touches along with the familiar warm wood floors and reclaimed lumber. The 80-seat restaurant will feature the usual Flip Side menu, but will serve weekend brunch, something only the Columbus location currently offers. A 15-seat bar will stock 20 craft beers on tap and many more in the bottle.

Next up for Monday and Schwartz are Flip Side outposts in the Flats East Bank and outside of Toledo. Monday also hints at a west side location of 3 Palms, his Hudson-based Neapolitan-style pizzeria, to open sometime in 2015.
