Twinsburg Seafood Special

We're not sure if it fits into the mode of Lenten self-denial or not, but now through May 1, lobster lovers can snag a major dinner deal at Twinsburg's Lobster Trap (9453 Ravenna Rd., 330-425-2257): two whole, 1 pound, live Maine lobsters, plus a choice of soup or salad, potato, and veggie, for a modest $25.95. Open since last July, the cozy, nautical-themed restaurant is the latest project for restaurateur Jim Malkus, whose prior operations included Grill Fish and The Flying Pig Barbecue Company, in Tremont. An alumnus of the Chuck Muer Seafood Restaurants chain, Malkus relies on his East Coast connections to fly in the fresh fish and shellfish several times each week. We dropped by on a recent weeknight for the lobster deal. Meaty, messy, and delicious, the twin crustaceans clearly were the stars of the show, making the simple sides seem pretty standard, in comparison. A starter of six mini crab cakes ($8.95) didn't impress us much, either: Although the flavor was zesty, crumbs outnumbered the crab particles about 20 to 1. Also on the menu: shrimp, crab, grouper, salmon, and strip steaks. Entree prices fall mostly in the $16 - $25 range, with several $6.95 kids' offerings. While Malkus put long hours into renovating and redecorating the former Millsville Inn, a liquor license has proved elusive. Thus, if all goes according to plan, he'll be moving the biz across the street, to the former, fully licensed Match House, later this summer. For the twin lobster special, reservations are required on Friday and Saturday, and recommended at all other times. Restaurant hours are 4:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. -- Elaine T. Cicora
