7/2: The Cypress Grove at CIM

Posted By on Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 10:00 AM

Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute has some explaining to do. There are some missing details — like Sarastro’s motivation for kidnapping Pamina, Tamino’s reason for traveling to the Kingdom of the Night and the origin of the magic flute itself. Composer and Cleveland Institute of Music grad Marshall Griffith’s one-act opera The Cypress Grove provides some answers. A cast of other CIM alum perform the piece as part of CIA’s Brown Bag Lunch and Listen recital series at noon today at Mixon Hall (11021 East Blvd., 216.791.5000, cim.edu). It’s free. — Michael Gill
