7/24: Big Love at Convergence-Continuum

Posted By on Wed, Jul 22, 2009 at 8:00 AM

Director Clyde Simon says Convergence-Continuum’s production of Big Love — Charles Mee’s adaptation of one of the western world’s oldest plays, Aeschylus’ The Danaids — is “very physical,” and “vaudevillian in a way.” Scenes are interspersed with songs, dance and video. After 50 brides in arranged marriages leave their grooms at the altar, the guys chase the women in helicopters. The gals then realize that the only way to get out of their marriages is to kill the grooms — which all but one of them does. Look for inventive use of video during the helicopter and crowd scenes. Big Love opens at 8 p.m., with performances through August 22 at Convergence-Continuum’s Liminis Theatre (2438 Scranton Rd., 216.687.0074). Tickets: $12-$15. — Michael Gill
