7/28: Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby

Posted By on Sun, Jul 26, 2009 at 8:00 AM

He’s one of the avatars of the wackier side of ’70s punk-wave, and she’s the sweetly cynical creator of 1996’s Diary of a Mod Housewife. Together they make beautiful music in more ways than one. Like the eponymous album the pair released last year, this show should be a hit. Swinging with the psych-pub pop verve of Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra, Eric and Rigby sync up perfectly — his twisted rhythms and confessional lyrics (“The Downside of Being a Fuck Up,” “Another Drive-in Saturday”) blending seamlessly with her pop sensibility and wry lyrical observations (“Men in Sandals,” the Farfisa-drenched wonder of “Astrovan,” which details the story behind Rigby’s stolen tour truck). They play the Beachland Tavern (15711 Waterloo Rd., 216.383.1124) at 9 p.m. with Tiger Fighter opening. Tickets: $10. — Brian Baker
