8/14: Heart and Soul at Cain Park

Posted By on Wed, Aug 12, 2009 at 4:35 PM

Forty years ago, some of us were trekking the traffic-jammed roads to upstate New York for the privilege of sitting in the rain on a hillside for three days of “peace and music” — better known as Woodstock. Cleveland musician David Budin, who was living in New York then, had a ticket but never made it. (Most who did make it had no ticket.) He’s leaving his regret behind and has organized Soul and Heart: A Festival of Folk, Blues and Pop-Gospel to honor the event’s anniversary. Performers at this “micro-festival” include his own ’60s folk tribute group Long Road, singer-woodwind player Rob Williams, pop-gospel vocal group the Prayer Warriors and singer-songwriter Noah Budin (David’s brother), who performs material infused with Jewish spirituality. They’ll play separately and in combinations with each other at 8 p.m. at Cain Park’s Evans Amphitheater (14591 Superior Rd., 216.371.3000). Tickets: $17-$23; Rock Hall members get in for half-price. — Anastasia Pantsios
