9/8: Lisa Black at Joseph-Beth Booksellers

Posted By on Sun, Sep 6, 2009 at 8:00 AM

Former Clevelander Lisa Black’s background gives her serious credibility as a crime novelist. After studying political science at John Carroll and receiving a master’s degree in biology at Cleveland State, she worked for five years at the Cuyahoga County Morgue, analyzing what the TV cops refer to as “GSR” — gunshot residue — as well as DNA, blood and other trace evidence at crime scenes. When Black and her husband moved to Florida in 2000, she found a job as a forensic specialist with the Cape Coral Police Department, where she now analyzes fingerprints. “Murder,” she says, “is my day job.” This week marks the debut of Evidence of Murder, the second book in Black’s Theresa MacLean series. It’s the story of a crime with no clues: A woman has been found dead in the woods, leaving behind a young family, but there’s nothing suspicious in the autopsy. But our protagonist senses something isn’t right. Black is back in town tonight, signing and discussing Evidence of Murder at 7 at Joseph-Beth Booksellers (24519 Cedar Rd., Lyndhurst, 216.691.7000). Admission is free. — Michael Gill
