10/7: CIM Orchestra

Posted By on Wed, Oct 7, 2009 at 4:10 PM

At 26, James Feddeck has already had a career a lot of conductors would envy. After obtaining degrees at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music — where he studied piano, organ, oboe and conducting — he became assistant conductor of the Memphis Symphony, where he was promoted to resident conductor earlier this year. He was also appointed assistant conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra this year, overseeing kids’ concerts and filling in for Franz Welser-Möst from time to time. Plus, he’s music director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra. Tonight, Feddeck conducts yet another ensemble, the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, in a program featuring Mussorgsky (Prelude to Khovantchina), Prokofiev (Violin Concerto No. 2) and Tchaikovsky (Symphony No. 6, the “Pathétique”). Showtime is 8 p.m. at CIM’s Kulas Hall (11021 East Blvd., 216.791.5000). Admission is free. — Michael Gill
