11/10: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Posted By on Tue, Nov 3, 2009 at 4:56 PM

We’re growing wary of all the bands performing albums in their entirety onstage these days. Does anyone really need to hear all of Dr. Feelgood live? Of course, we would love to see Van Morrison do Astral Weeks or the Pixies play all of Doolittle. It all comes down to how “classic” the classic album is. And you don’t get more classic than Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen’s 1975 opus, which he’ll perform, yep, in its entirety tonight. The record — which made Springsteen a star back in the day — features the greatest bookends in rock history: “Thunder Road” and “Jungleland.” It also includes the title tune and “Backstreets,” two of Springsteen’s greatest songs. “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” and “She’s the One” are pretty damn good too. Then there’s “Night” and “Meeting Across the River,” buried on their respective old-school sides, and for good reason. Still, you’re probably gonna need to pee or grab a beer or something, and either of these album fillers are perfect opportunities to stretch your legs. Springsteen and the E Street Band will also play a bunch of other songs, including some from his latest album, Working on a Dream. But the real reason to check out tonight’s show is for Born to Run — a classic that deserves the stage time. Springsteen plays Quicken Loans Arena (One Center Ct., 888.894.9424) at 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $58-$92. — Michael Gallucci
