11/11: Veterans for Peace

Posted By on Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 3:20 PM

Veterans Day, founded in 1954 to commemorate the conclusion of World War I, is a time for not only remembering veterans but also pondering the human cost of war and the price fighting men and women have paid. For the third year, the Cleveland-area chapter of Veterans for Peace — a nonprofit group formed to make the public more aware of that cost and to work toward ending war — will stage a reading of letters and quotes from both soldiers and public figures about wars that span the Revolutionary War to today’s conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Readers will include veterans of wars from World War II onward, with musical reflections provided by cellist Gene Epstein and bassist Michael McMurray and recorded music that echoes the readings’ themes. The program takes place at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (2747 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Hts., 216.932.5815). — Anastasia Pantsios
