11/12: Author Rusty McClure

Posted By on Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 3:25 PM

Cincinnatus was an ancient Roman farmer who served on the Consul and eventually assumed dictatorial powers when it was the only way he could defeat rival tribes. But Cincinnatus sealed his place in history when, after becoming a military hero, he turned over control of his country to the senate and returned to his farm. Cincinnatus is also the name of a historic organization dating back more than 200 years and formed by members of the Continental Army to ensure that American Revolutionary ideals were upheld after the war was won. Authors Rusty McClure and David Stern weave that background into Cincinnatus, a novel that starts on a golf course with a washed-up golfer-turned-caddy who gets caught up in a federal investigation of fixed matches. The mix of fact and fiction with fast-paced action brings to mind The Da Vinci Code. McClure will be in town today to talk about the book and sign copies. At noon he’ll visit the Borders Express in Tower City (230 W. Huron Rd., 216.861.0010,; at 7 p.m. he’ll be at Barnes & Noble Booksellers (28801 Chagrin Blvd., Woodmere, 216.765.7520). Both events are free. — Michael Gill
