12/18: Black Poetics Society at CMA

Posted By on Wed, Dec 16, 2009 at 11:52 AM

Three times a month, the Cleveland Museum of Art sponsors the Nia Coffeehouse at Karamu House and Coventry Village Library, an open-mic-style event that gives poets and jazz musicians a chance to strut their stuff. From 6:30-9 tonight, a very special Nia Coffeehouse (under the auspices of the Black Poetic Society) called Inside the Pro(s) will showcase some of the area’s most prominent black poets, including Kisha Nicole Foster, Douglas Lee Hoston Jr. (a.k.a. Sage the Wisecat, Champion Per Syllable), Andrea Hooks, R.A. Washington and Mary Weems. Karamu playwright in residence Michael Oatman is the event’s guest director. It takes place at CMA’s Recital Hall (11150 East Blvd., 216.421.7340), and it’s free. For more info, e-mail blackpoeticssociety@gmail.com. — Anastasia Pantsios
