1/8: Disney on Ice at The Q

Posted By on Wed, Jan 6, 2010 at 10:50 AM

The latest edition of Disney on Ice that will take up mini-residence at Quicken Loans Arena (One Center Ct., 888.894.9424) for the next 10 days is called “Let’s Celebrate.” The production — which opens at 7 tonight — pays tribute to celebrations of all kinds, with Mickey and Minnie hosting a “winter wonderland” festival, a Halloween salute from various Disney villains and — the one most likely to capture the imagination of the little girls who make up a sizable percentage of the ice-skating audience — a “royal ball” featuring a glazed dance floor filled with gliding Disney princesses. Unlike the defunct Ice Follies and Ice Capades (which emphasized glamour and ensemble skating) or Stars on Ice (which showcases the world-class skills of Olympic competitors like Sasha Cohen, Todd Eldredge and Yuka Sato), Disney on Ice features anonymous skaters pushing Disney film franchises to their target audience — kids. Tickets: $15-$68. Performances continue through January 18. — Anastasia Pantsios
