1/8: Lost in Yonkers at Cleveland Play House

Posted By on Wed, Jan 6, 2010 at 10:55 AM

With 33 plays and a matching number of screenplays to Neil Simon’s credit, the sheer volume of his output would alone set him apart, even if titles like The Odd Couple, Biloxi Blues and Brighton Beach Memoirs hadn’t become staples of theater repertoires across the country. You can also argue that no writer has mined a life spent in New York City as effectively as Simon. His 1991 play Lost in Yonkers isn’t as sentimental as some of his earlier work, so many fans consider it one of his best. Artistic director Michael Bloom directs Cleveland Play House’s production, which opens at 8 tonight with performances through January 31 at the Play House’s Drury Theatre (8500 Euclid Ave., 216.795.7000). Tickets: $44-$64. — Michael Gill
