Ongoing: Chalet Toboggan Chutes

Posted By on Wed, Jan 6, 2010 at 10:35 AM

There’s only one place in the state where the public can experience that winter roller-coaster ride known as tobogganing — and it’s right here in Northeast Ohio. At the Chalet Toboggan Chutes in the Cleveland Metroparks (16200 Valley Parkway, Strongsville, 440.572.9990), you’ll be issued a traditional wooden toboggan and sent careening down one of the two 700-foot ice chutes with a 70-foot vertical drop. If you’re missing Cedar Point right now, this is the place to go. The chutes are open from 6-10 p.m. Thursdays, 6-10:30 p.m. Fridays, noon-10:30 p.m. Saturdays and noon-5 p.m. Sundays, through March 7. All-day, unlimited-ride admission (which includes use of toboggans) is $8 for adults, $6 for kids ages 11 and under. Season and family passes are available too. If you’re not sure you’ll like it, a single ride is $3. And if you find you don’t — or you merely want to take a break — the Chalet has two fireplaces, a large-screen TV, videogames and a snack bar. — Anastasia Pantsios
