2/15: Fairytales & Frogs at the Zoo

Posted By on Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 3:08 PM

Learning about old presidents is probably the last thing a kid wants to do on a day off from school — even if that day is Presidents Day. On the other hand, your little girl probably gets excited about dressing up as a princess, even if — given Hillary Clinton’s competitive race for the presidency — it’s somewhat of a dated paradigm of female ambition. So crack out that mothballed Halloween costume, dress her up and take her to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (3900 Wildlife Way, 216.661.6500) for Fairytales & Frogs, a day that’s devoted to the amphibious creatures who, according to legend, turn into princes when kissed. No one will be forced to kiss, or even touch, a frog, but there will be opportunities to see them close up and meet their handlers, frog-related crafts and games, and storytelling (“The Frog Prince,” of course). Kids under 12 are free — and your little boy can dress up too, as a prince or a frog. Adult admission is $7. Activities take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., mostly in the RainForest. — Anastasia Pantsios
