2/14: John Pizzarelli at Nighttown

Posted By on Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 3:03 PM

If the Great American Songbook depends on New Jersey singer, guitarist and radio host John Pizzarelli, it’s in good hands. After revisiting standards made famous by the likes of Nat “King” Cole and Frank Sinatra, and recording an entire album dedicated to the music of Richard Rodgers (2008’s With a Song in My Heart), Pizzarelli takes on Duke Ellington on Rockin’ Rhythm. Reinventing standards has become second nature to Pizzarelli, who came of age following in the footsteps of his father, still-active guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli (who performs on Rockin’ Rhythm). Over his career, Pizzarelli has played alongside luminaries like Rosemary Clooney, Cesar Camargo Mariano and George Shearing. He’ll be backed by a quartet featuring his brother Martin Pizzarelli on bass, pianist Larry Fuller and drummer Tony Tedesco when he performs at Nighttown (12387 Cedar Rd., Cleveland Hts., 216.795.0550) at 6 and 8 p.m. Tickets: $35. — Ernest Barteldes
