2/17: Dr. Sketchy’s Drink and Draw at Beachland

Posted By on Wed, Feb 17, 2010 at 11:36 AM

Johnny Blazes doesn’t like categories. The Boston-based performer got his start at Oberlin College, where he founded the O Circus, which became a 95-person production before evolving into a smaller, darker and sexier cabaret-style show that played Cleveland, New York, Washington, D.C. and Boston. These days, Johnny Blazes is a one-person festival of fucked-up identity and good humor, with a repertoire of gender-blurring skits that provoke with their ambiguity. It seems likely he’ll inspire local artists to draw something interesting when he appears at this month’s Dr. Sketchy’s Drink and Draw event. “It’s drinks, drag and drawing this month,” says Dr. Aaron, co-host of the barroom-artist gathering. It starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Beachland Ballroom (15711 Waterloo Rd., 216.383.1124). Admission: $10. — Michael Gill
