3/21: Emanuela Friscioni at Tri-C Jazz benefit

Posted By on Thu, Mar 11, 2010 at 2:52 PM

The Tri-C Jazz Studies program offers high-school students a great deal: Not only do they simultaneously finish high school and earn college credit, but graduates are guaranteed admission to the Berklee College of Music, home of one of the nation’s top jazz programs. Pianist Emanuela Friscioni has the same vision for Tri-C’s less-developed Classical Music Performance Academy, which she directs. Part of her goal is to make sure no one misses the opportunity to learn because they don’t have the funds. “The cost of the academy is already very affordable,” she says. “But unfortunately, due to the economy, even that little cost can be a problem.” So Friscioni, an accomplished pianist, has put together a benefit concert where she’ll be joined by members of the Cleveland Orchestra. They’ll perform the Chopin Cello Sonata and Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland (3630 Fairmount Blvd., Shaker Hts., 216.241.6000, tricpresents.com). Tickets: $15. — Michael Gill
