4/7: CIM Orchestra

Posted By on Thu, Apr 1, 2010 at 4:47 PM

Composer Jeremy Allen refers to himself as a “conservatory-trained farm boy.” Born on a 400-acre spread in Iowa, Allen co-founded the local new-music ensemble FiveOne. His Americana-influenced compositions have been played at the Ingenuity Festival, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and the Cleveland Institute of Art. And his electronic music is part of the Cleveland Clinic’s Music and the Brain research project. The Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra opens tonight’s program with a performance of Allen’s “Meridian.” Also on tap: Miklos Rozsa’s Viola Concerto and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3. Carl Topilow conducts. It starts at 8 p.m. at CIM’s Kulas Hall (11021 East Blvd., 216.791.5000). Admission is free, but seating passes are required. — Michael Gill
