  • Cedarland at the Clinic

    9491 Euclid Ave. East Side/University Circle/Little Italy

    216-791-6606

A clean, casual Lebanese-American eatery across from the Cleveland Clinic, Cedarland has a large menu of Middle Eastern standards, including shishtawook, baked fish, and falafel. Lots of choices for vegetarians. There's a small imported-foods market too.
  • Marta's Czech & American Restaurant

    800 E. 222nd St., Euclid Eastern Suburbs

    216-731-9596

Owner, namesake, and painstaking chef Marta Runza works magic on her Eastern-European repertoire, turning out succulent, slow-cooked sauerbraten, ephemeral Czech dumplings, and the best roast duck — of any nationality — in town. And while the tiny dining room and bar are no more glam than Granny's rec room, the friendly Old World charm is priceless. Try the bar's unusual Czech specialties.

  • Melt Bar and Grilled

13463 Cedar Road, Cleveland Heights East Side/University Circle/Little Italy

    216-965-0988

Rightly praised for its gigantic stuffed and toasted grilled cheese sandwiches, this home-grown phenomenon fills bellies and buoys spirits. Fillings range from the austere to the ridiculous, such as the pair of cheese pierogies inside the Parmageddon. Wicked beer list, kitsch-filled dining room, and rockin' tunes create a festive atmosphere.

  • Rusty Bucket Corner Tavern

6025 Kruse Dr., Solon Eastern Suburbs

    440-248-2300

Part of a small but growing Columbus-based chain, this neighborhood eatery offers a family-friendly vibe, a casual sports-bar motif, and a big menu of generally well-prepared comfort food (try the meatloaf!). Long international beer list.
  • Stadium Grill

    8330 Tyler Blvd. Mentor/Lake County

    440-205-4745

  • Yours Truly

    13228 Shaker Sq. East Side/University Circle/Little Italy

    216-751-8646

The Shibley family launched their Greater Cleveland burger empire in 1981 with the motto, “If you crave it and we have it, we’ll be glad to make it for you.” The restaurants now number six, and the Shaker Heights location is one of the nicest. Juicy gourmet burgers dominate the menu, although hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and omelets are available too. A large breakfast menu, available all day, includes eggs, pancakes, corned-beef hash, and oatmeal.
