My Darling Clementine and more picks for the week

My Darling Clementine

John Ford's 1946 take on the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral stars a solid Henry Fonda (as Wyatt Earp) and a not-so-sturdy Victor Mature (as Doc Holliday) kicking up some dust in the Old West. It's one of Ford's lowest-key westerns and one of his best. The Cinematheque busts out a restored 35mm print for this week's screening, which also boasts an appearance by film scholar Grafton Nunes, who'll talk about the movie. At 7 p.m. Monday, October 25, at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque.

Alamar

A divorced dad takes his five-year-old son for one last trip before the boy goes to live with his mom far, far away. No, those aren't tears ... I think it's raining in here. The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. At 9:25 p.m. Friday, October 22, and 7:10 p.m. Saturday, October 23.

Freakonomics

Documentary based on the bestselling book about the "hidden side of everything." Party poopers. Opens Friday at the Cedar Lee Theatre.

Holiday

It's not as great as The Philadelphia Story, but this 1938 movie starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant (and written by the same guy who penned Philadelphia) is still pretty funny. The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. At 5:15 p.m. Saturday, October 23, and 4 p.m. Sunday, October 24.

Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child

Documentary about the renegade painter, who died when he was 27. So the movie probably isn't too long. Cleveland Museum of Art Morley Lecture Hall. At 7 p.m. Friday, October 22, and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 24.

The Savage Eye

Europeans love this 1960 scathing look at the superficial side of the United States. Fucking Europeans ... The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, October 24.

Valhalla Rising

It's a bloody Viking epic directed by the guy who made Bronson. If that's not enough for you to go see it, maybe you should stay home and knit some socks or something. The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. At 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 22, 8:45 p.m. Saturday, October 23, and 8 p.m. Sunday, October 24.
