Cleveland Film Fest To Move 2018 Opening Night to Playhouse Square

[image-1]Citing the success of last year's Believeland screening, organizers of the Cleveland International Film Festival have announced that next year's opening night screening and gala will take place at Playhouse Square.

Because the festival is happening slightly later in the year — the 42nd annual CIFF begins Wednesday, April 4 — dates were available at Cleveland's principal theater complex, the largest performing arts center in the county outside NYC.

"Somehow the stars aligned,” CIFF Director Marcie Goodman told the Akron Becaon-Journal.

In the past, opening night festivities have taken place at Tower City. This year, member headquarters and the majority of the screenings will still occur at Tower City. Attendees can expect satellite screenings across town as well. The off-site events have steadily increased over the past three years.

The key advantage of an opening night screening at Playhouse Square is capacity. The Palace Theater, where the screening will take place, can hold more than 2,700 people.

The opening night film has yet to be announced. And while most of the information about CIFF42 won't be released until March, 2018, you can already buy tickets for the opening night soireee at
