Whoopi Goldberg, Laura Linney, Diane Ladd, Lynne Cohen, Lainie Kazan,
Austin Pendleton, Ed Asner, Armistead Maupin and Michael Dukakis all make appearances in Olympia, a new documentary film about actress Olympia Dukakis.

The movie makes its Ohio premiere this weekend at the Cleveland International Film Festival, where it shows at 7:15 tonight and at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at Tower City Cinemas. It screens again at 2:45 p.m. tomorrow at the Cleveland museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium.

Director Harry Mavromichalis follows Dukakis as she takes on the roles of actor, teacher, wife, mother, and social activist. The film shows how she "deals with the struggles and pains surrounding identity and the roles placed on us by society." It follows Dukakis as she goes to rehearsals and workshops and includes footage of her with her daughter and granddaughters at her ancestral home in Greece.

The daughter of Greek immigrants, Dukakis earned two degrees from Boston University and worked as a physical therapist while pursuing a stage career. In 1987, Dukakis won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance as Cher's mother in Moonstruck. She was also nominated for an Emmy for her performance as Anna Madrigal in the public television miniseries Tales of the City. In June, she'll appear in the Netflix update of Tales of the City.
