New to DVD this week

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Here's your chance to see one of the year's best movies, which bombed in theaters. That's OK — it works just as well at home, where the video-game-themed plot fits perfectly. Michael Cera once again plays a nerdy kid pining for a hot girl. But this time he has superpowers (sort of), which he uses to take on his new girlfriend's seven evil exes. The movie is a geektastic overload of comic books (it's based on one), video games (it looks like one), and indie rock (it's all over the soundtrack). Tons of awesome extras on the Blu-ray include deleted scenes, an animated short, and everything you ever wanted to know about how they made the visually explosive movie.

Grown Ups

Adam Sandler gathers old friends Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider to relive their childhoods. Guess what? They're still kids at heart, and they're still doing stupid things most grown-ups grew out of years ago. The cast and crew are filled with Sandler's pals; the movie is filled with Sandler's usual jokes about fat people and pee.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume XIX

(Shout! Factory)

The latest box set starring the bad-movie-skewering robots features four stinkers from the public-domain vaults. The best — um, we mean worst — is Bride of the Monster, an Ed Wood mess that's almost as terrible as Plan 9 From Outer Space. Bonus: You get a super-cool Gypsy figurine to play with.

Sherlock: Season One

— Forget last year's Robert Downey Jr. movie — this TV series is the better reboot of Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective. Set in modern times, this Sherlock bubbles with energy, action, and a wonderfully sly performance by Martin Freeman (from the British Office) as Dr. Watson. The two-disc Blu-ray includes the original pilot.
