Jim Finn screens several of his films tonight at Oberlin

Championed by the likes of Canadian experimental filmmaker Guy Maddin, St. Louis-born Jim Finn has been called “A Marxist Christopher Guest.” And that's a compliment. Currently a teacher at Boston’s Emerson College, Finn will be on hand to introduce several of his films, which screen tonight at 8 at Oberlin College’s Hallock Auditorium (122 Elm St.). After showing a collection of shorts (including 2009’s award-winning Dick Cheney in a Cold, Dark Cell), he’ll show 2006’s Interkosmos, a parody about the Soviet space program that was the opening night film at the 2006 New York Underground Film Festival. The event is free and open to the public; it’s part of SIGHT LINES: Dialogues in Film and Media, an Exhibition Practices Initiative, a multi-media series connected to Oberlin’s Cinema Studies program.
