You can never have too many film festivals. On the Edge Film Festival, a new film fest that promises have something for “extreme sport and armchair athletes alike,” makes its debut at the Breen Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Oct. 9 and Saturday, Oct. 10.
The two-night event features different films each evening. Friday’s Opening Night Reception attendees can visit food trucks outside the theater and will be treated to dessert, complimentary coffee and Red Bull in the theater lobby from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dessert, coffee and Red Bull will also be served for Saturday’s reception that takes place from 7 to 8 p.m. Both receptions include exhibits for outdoor enthusiasts and unique door prizes. Members of Bike Cleveland will operate the wine and beer cash bar. The films begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Friday’s schedule includes
Teton Hooping Contingency, a film about extreme hoola hooping, and
Dog Days of Winter, the first feature documentary about the startup of organized freestyle skiing during the early 1970s in America. A handful of other flicks will screen as well. Saturday’s highlights include
The Important Places, a film about the connection between a father and son and the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, and
The Bus: A Journey Up North, a movie about how friends convert a school bus to run off waste vegetable oil. A few other films screen on Saturday night as well.
“It's a very diverse and interesting collection of films from around the world: some extreme sport, some travel, three environment films and some short character studies,” says festival director Christine Russell. “And as a rarity, women athletes are featured in a couple of the films. Films range from four minutes to 36 minutes in length — eight different films shown each night.”
